WHAT IS PASHMINA?

Derived from the Persian word “pashm”, meaning wool, pashmina refers to the fine undercoat of the pashmina or changthangi goat found in the Himalayas. The freezing temperatures means these goats develop a fine, super soft layer with incredible insulating abilities. This wool is now often used to make cashmere accessories, in particular scarves, shawls and wraps.

HOW IS PASHMINA MADE?

The process of creating a pashmina first involves gathering the fine undercoat, which is combed out during the moulting season. Once collected, the pashmina fibre is cleaned, spun, and woven into various products such as shawls, scarves, and blankets.

One of the reasons why pashminas are so special and luxurious is because of the work that goes in to making them. As they are handcrafted, it is a time-consuming and labour-intensive process, and it requires the annual fleece of three goats to create a single scarf. The result is a lightweight, stylish pashmina which is also super warm and soft to the touch.
